TradeWinds Island Grand spans 20 lush, tropical acres and boasts a heritage of award-winning service and certification as a Florida Green Lodge. Overlooking the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Island Grand is located on the white sand beaches of St Pete Beach, consistently ranked one of America’s Top Beaches by TripAdvisor.
This was my second stay at TradeWinds Island Resort on St.Pete Beach in Florida, which was just voted one of the top 10 best resorts on Florida’s Gulf Coast by Conde Nast readers.
One of the reasons I enjoy it so much is because I can bring my Boston Terriers to the resort and stay in one of their pet suites. We stayed for 3 nights at the end October, a great month in Florida as it’s considered the “dry season.”
The biggest benefit at this resort for the pets is that it offers an off the lease double gated paw park. In the dog park was two patio tables, several lounge chairs as well as photo op for you and your pet. And they don’t just allow dogs here, their were a couple of cats that we saw in the windows of the suites as well.
Their is a very small pet walk area near the pet suites marked by paw prints on the cement. Probably a bit too small, but it does allow for a small sand area and hammock for lounging or photos. Pets are not allowed on the beach here. So, for fido to take a romp in the water you’ll need to head to Fort De Soto dog park which is about 35 min. away. It offers two large runs complete with showers and watering fountains. One run is marked for large dogs and one for small dogs, but it also boosts one of the nicest sand dog beaches in Florida.
Tradewinds Island Grand also has a small shower area and storage cabinet with pet shampoo and towels, should you require it during your stay.
For future reference, we would like to see at least one of their several restaurants allow pets on their outdoor patios. However, their is a very large room service menu and a some pet offerings on their as well. We choose to order from their Pizza Express and have one person head over to one of their restaurants to get carry out one night and eat it back in the suite. The suite we where in offered a mini fridge, small stove, microwave and coffee maker. So, making your own meals was very convenient and their was a Publix just up the street. Note: this particular Publix does not have a pharmacy though, so you’ll need to head to CVS or Walgreen’s for any prescriptions etc.
Unfortunately, we did not get to see one of Florida’s famous sunsets. They just weren’t spectacular as they sometimes are in October. But, we were lucky enough to see fireworks on the beach Saturday night.
The resort fee really covers a lot of options that we were not able to take advantage of this time as we did not want to leave our 9 months old puppies in the suite (this being only their second hotel they have been too). But, if you have a pet sitter or can have concierge set one up for you, their are plenty of amenities to take advantage of.
We highly recommend this right on the beach resort as you get the benefit of not one, but two resorts in your resort stay (Guy Harvey Suites being the other one). And, because it allows pets with a paw park.
